Money and Feathers

With my great aunt
A street in Tehran

My great aunt, Gita Amvarpour Moriah was born on April 7th, 1949 in Tehran, Iran

Cheating Siblings

When I was about 4 years old, my 5 brothers and 2 sisters were home alone playing cards. My brother Shemon cheated, so the rest of us were yelling and shouting at him "you cheated!” Our yelling and shouting, turned into a pillow fight, and we all started throwing pillows at one another, and suddenly the pillows ripped open. Not only did feathers come out of the pillows, but lots of money our mother hid, came flying everywhere. No one knew what to do, so we just shoved all the money and feathers into the pillows, and sewed them back to normal as if nothing happened. When my mother came home, and found out what had happened that day, the first thing she asked was "Where is my money?”

A quote I learned from my great aunt Gita, (or as I like to call, Khaleh Gita) is that "Everything happens for a reason” because, when she fell, she didn't stay down, she got back up.

Another phrase I learned from Khaleh Gita, is "never give up” because when she moved to America, she hated it, but now her kids have kids, and she doesn't regret it a bit.
